Roma Tre University
Roma Tre — Rome's third public university, hence the name — was established in 1992, after a mid-1980s ministerial inquiry found the capital genuinely short of university places for its student population. It was built specifically to relieve overcrowding at Sapienza, in what was then a semi-industrial part of the city.

About the university
Despite being the youngest of Rome's public universities, it's grown into the city's second-largest by enrolment — more than 35,000 students across 13 departments, spanning Bachelor's, Master's, PhD, and specialisation programmes — and is now regarded as one of Italy's larger research-focused institutions rather than a small newcomer.
Its comparative youth means newer buildings and facilities than Sapienza's historic Città Universitaria, and a slightly less bureaucratic, more manageable scale for an incoming student to navigate, while still offering the breadth of a genuinely comprehensive public university.
Admission for international students generally runs through the standard route: Universitaly pre-enrolment, a Declaration of Value or CIMEA comparability statement for your prior qualification, and — depending on department — an entrance test or a language requirement if you're studying in Italian.
