Venice is home to two public universities: Ca' Foscari, a comprehensive university strong in economics, languages, and the humanities, and Iuav, specialising in architecture, design, and urban planning. Studying here means living inside one of the most recognisable cities in the world — canals instead of roads, no cars in the historic centre, and a UNESCO World Heritage setting as your everyday backdrop.

Venice's tourism economy pushes rents up in the historic centre specifically, and many students end up based on the mainland in Mestre, a short train or bus ride away, for a more affordable and more typically residential base.
It's a small, singular city to study in — genuinely walkable (there's no other way to get around the historic centre), with Padua's larger student population and Ca' Foscari's own campus network both close by via a quick regional train.
