Studying in Italy from Jordan
The overall application process is the same everywhere — choose a course, pre-enrol through Universitaly, get your documents legalised, apply for your visa. What genuinely differs by country is which office handles each of those steps, and this page covers exactly that for Jordan.
Which office handles your case
The Italian Embassy in Amman handles consular and visa affairs for essentially the whole country. There's a small honorary vice-consulate in Aqaba, but its jurisdiction is limited to the Aqaba Special Economic Zone and Ma'an governorate — everyone else, including student visa applicants, goes through Amman.
Apostille or full legalisation?
Jordan is not a party to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. A Tawjihi certificate, degree transcript, or other Jordanian document needs full legalisation — authenticated by Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then legalised by the Italian Embassy in Amman.
Where you apply for your visa
This is the detail most likely to trip people up: VFS Global's centre in Amman handles short-stay Schengen (tourist/business) visas only. A national Type D student visa has to be applied for directly at the Embassy's own Visa Section — not through VFS at all.
Getting your Declaration of Value
A Declaration of Value for a Jordanian qualification is issued by the Italian Embassy in Amman. CIMEA's Statement of Comparability is a separate, non-binding alternative that some universities accept instead — check which one your specific university wants before requesting either.
